or Glue in the Church?" - Dr. Walt Russell
Eph 4:25-32
What kind of an impact do you have on the people of God?
Do you divide Christians with your words and actions or do you unite them?
Do you reinforce or weaken the UNITY of the Body of Christ as emphasized
in Eph. 4:1-16?
Do the behaviors with which you clothe your new self in Christ bring together
or separate God's people?
There are five crucial areas in Eph.4:25-32 in which we either cut or glue the Church of Jesus Christ.
Verses | Our Scissors: Divisive Sins | Our Glue: Unifying Traits | Reason for the Replacement | Application |
25 | Lying | Speaking truthfully | We are members of one another (one Body)
26-27 | Explosive, sinful anger that remains | Righteous wrath that is quickly reconciled | the Devil will exploit unresolved & sinful anger (cause division)
28 | Stealing | Working with your own hands | Soo you can share with others who have needs
29-30 | Unwholesome/worthless words | Edifying/building up words | You will benefit those who hear & not grieve the Holy Spirit
31-32 | Bitter, divisive feelings & actions | Being kind, tenderhearted, & forgiving toward one another | God forgave you! |
Which areas is crucial for you to focus upon & take some life-changing steps?

08/22/1999 "How to Serve
God in Your Workplace" - Pastor Howard Hsieh
Dan. 6:1-5, 18-25; Mt. 5:13-16
Like Daniel, we are called to be light shining in the midst of darkness. Our workplace or place of study is our mission field. We serve God, not only in church-related functions, but also in the workplace. (Col.3:23-24)
How can we shine our light in a non-Christian working place/ study environment?
1. Through an exemplary attitude - Dan. 6:3, 8-9; Dan. 5:11; Phil. 2:14-15
2. Through the excellent quality of our work - Dan. 6:4-5; Dan.1:20; Col.3:23-24
3. Through our faithful response in times of trials - Dan. 6:6-28; Jas.1:2-4; 1 Pet.1:6-7
The result: That God will be glorified by our exemplary life - Dan. 6:26-27; 1 Pet. 2;12; Mt. 5:16; 1 Cor.10:31

"Being a Church without 'Laity' "
- Dr. Walt Russell
Eph. 4:11-16
Introduction: Considering the significance of a name!
I. A specific expression of Christ's grace to us is the cluster of
gifted individuals which is to equip all other believers to be "ministers"
in using their respective spiritual gifts to build up the Church.
(Eph. 4:11-12)
II. Our ministry as the saints is to result in the ultimate goal of a unified and mature church. (Eph. 4:13-16)
A concluding question for you :
How Do We Discover Our Spiritual Gifts?
Begin by praying
Study the Gifts of the Spirit in the Bible
Determine what your desires are
See if your desires are confirmed by ability
Determine if your efforts are accompanied by God's blessing

Spirituality Differs from Religious Legalism" - Pastor Howard
Hsieh
Mark 2:23-28, 3:1-6
1. True spirituality fulfills the spirit of the law while legalism rigidly observes the letter of the law. Mk 3:23-28; Mt 23:23-24

07/25/1999 "YOU are Gifted to
Minister" - Dr. Walt Russell
Eph. 4:7-12
Introduction: 3 aspects of our sense of well-being in Christ
I. Jesus Christ gave grace-gifts (spiritual gifts) to each Christian as a part of the spoils of His spiritual triumph over Satan. (Eph. 4:7-10)
A. Our spiritual gifts are a part of the grace that Christ gives us. (4:7b)
B. The costliness of these grace-gifts is seen in the price Christ paid to gain them. (4:9-10)
II. Jesus Christ has given at least 19 different grace-gifts (spiritual gifts) to the Church (Eph.4:11; 1 Pet. 4:10-11; Rom.12:3-8; 1 Cor. 12-14)
III. Christ also gave some grace-gifted individuals to His Church
for the purpose of equipping the saints to minister effectively and
build up the Church.
A. Four grace-gifts are singled out, apparently because they
help establish the direction and environment for
the effective exercise of the rest of the spiritual
gifts in the Church. (4:11)
B. The PURPOSE of these specific grace-gifted individuals is
to equip all Christians so they can minister effectively
and ultimately build up the Church. (4:12)
07/18/1999 "Walking Worthily
Together" - Dr. Walt Russell
Eph. 4:1-6
I. Two reasons why we should have unity as a church:
A. Reason #1 (Jn.17:20-23)
B. Reason #2 (Eph. 4:1)
II. The high cost of unity in the church must be paid by each individual in selfless, accepting attitudes and actions.
A. With humility of mind and gentleness (4:2a)
B. With patience showing forbearance to one another in love (4:2b-c)
C. Being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (4:3)
III. The basis of our unity is the unity of the ministry of the Trinity.
A. Through the Holy Spirit we see the realization of our unity (4:4)
B. In the Son we see the focus of our unity (4:5)
C. In the Father we see the source of our unity (4:6)
