Rebelling: What's the difference?" Pastor Howard Hsieh
Numbers chapter 12
Main Point: You may disagree with your spiritual leaders but beware of speaking against them in a rebellious way.
1. You will not always agree with the actions of a spiritual leader. 12:1; Rom 3:23
2. Don't speak against the authority of your spiritual leader for you to speak against the Lord. 12:2-8; Exo 22:28; Rom 13:1-2
3. Rebellion against spiritual authority incurs the Lord's anger and discipine. 12:9-16; Rom 13:1-2
How to confront a spiritual leader:
Maker your appeal in a respectful way. 1 Tim 5:1-2; Gal 6:1
Make sure you have concrete, verifiable evidence. 1 Tim 5:19-20
Use God's word to speak to your leader. 2 TIm 3:16-17; 2 Sam 12:9-12; 1 Sam 25:23-31
Go through the proper procedure in church discipline. Matt 18:15-17; 1 Tim19-20

A. He was concerned with his own honor and position - (1 Sam. 15:12; Isa.14:12-14)
B. He rationalized his disobedience by relying on his own wisdom - (1 Sam.15:8-9; 20-21; Prov.3:5-6)
C. He assumed that sacrifices were more important to God than obedience (1 Sam. 15:20-21; Isa.1:13-17)

III. Practical Application for Us
05/23/1999 "The Christian Family:
Trauma or Training Ground" - Dr. Walt Russell
Eph 6:1-4
Big Idea:
Children must obey and honor their parents, while Fathers must train and
warn but not provoke their children to anger.
1. Children must obey and honor their parents. 6:1-3
a. To obey is to hear and respond in complet submission to the authority of your parents.
b. To honor is to have a disposition or attitude of respect for both parents to point of caring for them in their old age.
2. Fathers must train and warn, but not provoke their children to anger.
a. Fathers (not "parents") are warned and instructed because the training of the childre is ultimately their resonsibility.
b. Fathers are first warned not to provoke their children to anger (as the overly harsh discipline).
c. Instead, fathers are to "nourish" their children by gently feeding them the truths of God.
